Bonaventurovo nesnadné hledání odpovědi na otázku prvotního účelu vtělení (texty a interpretace)

Bonaventure’s Uneasy Search for an Answer to the Question of the Primary Purpose of the Incarnation (Texts and Interpretation)

Ctirad Václav Pospíšil

Studia Theologica 2024, 26(2):1-19 | DOI: 10.5507/sth.2024.006420

In this study, the author addresses the issue of Bonaventure’s position on the question of the primary purpose of the incarnation. He presents a translation of certain passages from Bonaventure’s Commentary on the Sentences. He subsequently he analyzes the content of the translated texts in an extensive conclusion, confronts them with other parts of Bonaventure’s work, and compares them with the position of John Duns Scotus. This demonstrates that Bonaventure’s attitude was not clear-cut and changed throughout his life. Scotus could have found a starting point for creating his original solution to the given problem in some...

Sakramentalita Božího slova podle Jacka D. Kilcrease v ekumenické diskusi s římskokatolickou teologií

The Sacramentality of the Word of God  by Jack D. Kilcrease in an Ecumenical Discussion with Roman Catholic Theology

Jaroslav Vokoun

Studia Theologica 2024, 26(2):21-36 | DOI: 10.5507/sth.2024.001535

In the spirit of the Reformation Lutheran tradition, Jack D. Kilcrease reduces the gospel and thus the sacrament of God’s word to the word absolution. With this reduction, however, he also opens up the “Catholic breadth” of the sacrament of the word, This is a word not connected to a clearly visible sign, but one which stands on the border between the word and the sacraments. It can also be the key to understanding the unity of both. God’s action in the word of absolution is a possible starting point for understanding God’s action in the word in general and God’s action in the sacraments. Roman Catholic authors approach...

Matej Ferjanc

Studia Theologica 2024, 26(2):37-59 | DOI: 10.5507/sth.2024.010492

The topic of the study is the phenomenon of the death of God in the thought of Friedrich Nietzsche and its reflection through interpretation and evaluation by the following thinkers: M. Heidegger, K. Jaspers, E. Fink, G. Deleuze and P. Kouba. Special attention is paid to the reasons and consequences of the cultural and dramatic event, which is the death of God. Attention is also focused on the personality types that are characteristic after the death of God and on the desirable and undesirable life possibilities that this event opens up. The current reception of Nietzsche’s statement “God is dead” demonstrates that his insight and...

Večitá Božia prítomnosť v relativisticky chápanom vesmíre

The Temporal Presence of God in a Relativistic Universe

Ľuboš Rojka

Studia Theologica 2024, 26(2):61-79 | DOI: 10.5507/sth.2024.009398

The traditional concept of a temporarily present God in Open Theism more closely aligns with religious and biblical understandings of God than does the classical timeless concept. Divine temporal knowledge and causality require, however, a dynamic theory of time and absolute time, concepts that most theorists of relativity challenge. The standard version of presentism, as proposed by W. L. Craig, has not been well received in the scientific community. A more effective solution to conceptualizing God’s temporal presence in a relativistic universe involves reinterpreting the Theory of Relativity as pertaining to measurements of local times, which...

Missionary Translations of the Divine Liturgy of Saint John Chrysostom into the Languages of the Indigenous Peoples of the Russian Empire

Katarína Džunková

Studia Theologica 2024, 26(2):81-101 | DOI: 10.5507/sth.2024.018493

The translations of the Divine Liturgy into the languages of the indigenous peoples of the Russian Empire were created by Russian missionaries, primarily in the nineteenth century. Their objective was to prevent a mass exodus from Orthodoxy to Islam or paganism and offer the local population a more comprehensive understanding of Christianity. The article expounds on this phenomenon within the context of the ongoing debate regarding the translation of the liturgy into Russian. The article encompass the translation of sacred texts into the Komi language by St. Stephen of Perm and addresses the circumstances in the early nineteenth century when emperors...

Obraz karolinské expanze do Fríska v hagiografických spisech

The Image of Carolingian Expansion into Frisia in the Hagiographic Literature

Martin Šenk

Studia Theologica 2024, 26(2):103-117 | DOI: 10.5507/sth.2024.012549

This paper focuses on the early Carolingian hagiographic production and its role in the Carolingians rise to power. Attention is paid to the image of Carolingian expansion beyond the Frankish Empire in hagiographical literature, using Frisia as an example, and to the possible role of these writings in legitimising Carolingian conquests. In doing so, it is demonstrated that early Carolingian hagiographic production purposefully glorified the Carolingian ancestors within the chosen narratives and, to some extent, formed the legitimising framework of the Carolingian political and ecclesiastical expansion.

The Secrecy of Confession and the Penal Law Context within the Legal Order
of the Czech Republic

Pavel Kotlán, Radim Kalabis

Studia Theologica 2024, 26(2):119-139 | DOI: 10.5507/sth.2024.011693

The article focuses on the secrecy of confession, which is primarily a matter of ecclesiastical law, and its reflection in secular law, especially in the law of the Czech Republic. On the basis of the definition of the nature of secrecy of confession, including its historical context, and an analysis of legal regulations, especially in the field of penal law, we have tried to present the relationship of the law of the Czech Republic to the protection of secrecy of confession. The analysis of the law on the constitutional and statutory level demonstrates that the protection of confessional secrecy is not sufficiently ensured, or that there are significant...

Probačný úradník ako eventuálny sprevádzateľ odsúdených skrze katechézu

A Probation Officer as a Possible Accompanist of Convicts through Catechesis

Adriána Harčariková

Studia Theologica 2024, 26(2):141-155 | DOI: 10.5507/sth.2024.017403

In this study, we focused on the probation officer as a potential companion for convicts during a specific, difficult stage of their lives through catechesis and through the witness of his or her own life. It is not difficult to see bad behaviour in a person, but we should look for the good in them in spite of everything and try to heal the wounded in them by telling them the good news, this being the Gospel. Without God’s help, support and encouragement, a person marked by imprisonment finds it difficult to rise up from the bottom. The paper also deals with an analysis of the work of the probation officer in terms of the Probation and Mediation...

Česko a právo na rodinný život perspektivou Evropského soudu pro lidská práva

The Czech Republic and the Right to Family Life from the Perspective of the European Court of Human Rights

Tomáš Zdechovský, Jitka Fialová

Studia Theologica 2024, 26(2):157-174 | DOI: 10.5507/sth.2024.016550

Few institutions are as rooted in history as marriage and the family, and many references can be found in the Bible to support its functions and stability. The family was first declared to be the foundation of society around 450 B.C. in the Roman Code, the so-called Twelve Tablets. In the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948), Article 16 states that the family is the natural and fundamental unit of society and is therefore entitled to protection by society and the State. The European Convention on Human Rights (1950) provides for special protection of family life in Article 8, and any violations of this right by state institutions are judged...
