The parable of the lost drachma (mostly called: “of the lost coin”) appears only in the Gospel of Luke (15:8‒10). Along with the preceding parable of the lost sheep in Luke 15:4‒7, it forms a pair with the same message about the joy of God at the finding of the lost. This contribution first analyses the text of this parable, then explores the significance of the parable within the fifteenth chapter of Luke and consequently examines its message and significance within the entire double work of Luke, i.e. in the Gospel of Luke and in Acts. The relatively short and often overlooked parable of the lost coin, in which the acting...

New Testament scholars do not agree on many things, but one of the topics they usually agree on is the priority of Mark’s gospel. Given the amount of work built upon this argument in the last one hundred years, one would expect scholars to continually review its foundations and assumptions to prevent any “collapse” of the conclusions built upon it. This has not been the case, however, and most scholars take the Markan priority (MP) for granted. The present text argues that the most common arguments for MP are merely interpretations based upon the already existing assumption, are inconclusive or based upon modern Vorverständnis. Such...

The Letter to the Romans represents the high point of Paul’s teaching and theological reflection, although it contains, as his other letters, some statements that are difficult to understand. One of the places in the Letter to the Romans which makes translation and interpretation difficult is the meaning of ἐφ᾿ ᾧ at the end of Romans 5:12. Various meanings of ἐφ᾿ ᾧ in Romans 5:12 have been proposed over the centuries and decades. In general, we can say that the different ways of interpretation can be divided into two categories based on whether the formulation ἐφ᾿ ᾧ is understood...

The article examines the Olomouc diocesan synods of the sixteenth century, which were dedicated, after the Council of Trent, to the acceptance of its decrees within the environment of the Moravian clergy. The synod, organised after the end of the council negotiations of Bishop Vilém Prusinovský in 1568, accepted the council decisions only in terms of the content. Nothing was printed against the decision at the time. Another diocesan synod was finally organised in 1591 by the Olomouc bishop Stanislav Pavlovský of Pavlovice. This synod formally accepted the decision of the Council of Trent in its integrality. Due to the circumstances, however, the organisation...

The author reflects not only on the book L. Kolářové, Stvoření, nebo příroda, Praha: Pavel Mervart, 2018, but also on the issue of the Theology of Creation as a whole. We have to distinguish between the first, the second, the continuous, the new and the completed creation. It seems to be convenient to present a specific part of the Theology of Creation in relation to the natural sciences in Fundamental Theology and the biblical concept of creation as part of Soteriology in Dogmatic Theology.

The study follows up on the previous article about the Christological titles and Christ’s magisterial office treated in the main writings of the German theologian. The aim of this study is to put Christ’s priestly office into the context of Scheeben’s soteriological reflection, to present the main characteristics of the office, to draw attention to the sacrifice on the Cross as the central function of Christ’s priesthood and, finally, point out the Trinitarian foundation of Jesus’s sacrifice. Christ’s high-priesthood, with its climax in the sacrifice of the Cross, can be rightly considered as crucial to understanding...

The aim of the paper is to define more closely the model of theological thinking of the current Pope Francis on the example of his interpretation and communication of the religious thought of the Russian novelist F. M. Dostoevsky. In the theological thinking of Pope Francis, this concept has a mediating role between the cultural form of religion and its meaning and role for theology. Next, the study reviews the sources and cultural influences of his approach to theology. Finally, through an analysis of his texts, it presents specific systematic insights into the nature of the interconnectedness of Russian religious thought, including implications for...

Theology and religious studies have been drawn to the context of the natural sciences since the beginning of the twentieth century at the latest. The natural sciences in general and neuroscience in particular, seek to answer the question of the origin and nature of the religious phenomenon apart from the theology and religious studies. Andrew Newberg defined the field of neurotheology and due to his definition presented neurotheology as a partner for theology and religion. The article deals with the method of neurotheology and with its relation to theology and religious studies.
