Tresmontant has never explicitly dealt with the interpretation of the concepts of body and corporeality in his work. He was, however, very interested in the philosophy of creation and the biblical interpretations. In this work we systematically organized his anthropological thoughts and present them as a logically organized framework that characterizes his perception of body and flesh as anthropological categories. Despite the fact that Tresmontant based his arguments on the classical metaphysical and biblical interpretation of various texts, we suggest that they still represent a comprehensive modern theological anthropology.

This paper presents the concept of truth in Franz Rosenzweig’s philosophy. It demonstrates how Rosenzweig criticises the old way of thinking and how he presents his own concept of new thinking. This transition from old to new thinking is presented here using the concept of truth. This is understood by Rosenzweig in three steps. The first step is represented by the truth of the old philosophy and has to be left behind. The second level of truth is truth in the ordinary way of acting in the world, as it is present in everydayness of live. The third step is truth in God as a totality and unity of all. After the presentation of these three...

The aim of the article is to present a critique and a polemic of Czech philosophers in the Thomist tradition with Marxism in the postwar period. A turn to left-wing political practice and thinking throughout Europe in the year following the end of World War II can be observed. "Socialism" was one of the major issues in the public discussion of that time in Czechoslovakia as well. Although the majority of society and its intellectual elites were oriented positively towards socialist and even Marxist ideas, there still existed several centres of critique of these political tendencies. One of the most interesting groups was the Czech Thomist philosophers,...

The institution of the oath was applied in a historical form as well as at present in several contemporary legal systems creatively developed by canonists while practically applying the so-called Roman-Canonical procedure. From the chronological point of view, the most important was the period of High Middle Ages when it was elaborated in small details and when its types were standardized. The most frequently used were the so-called "supplementary oath" applied principally when the ecclesiastical court had at its disposition partial evidence or the presumption in favour of the party with the burden of evidence existed and it was impossible...

School plays, the heritage of the Renaissance, were an important means of education the Baroque era in Catholic and Protestant settings. In addition to a number of common elements of Renaissance culture, it naturally worked with confessional potential. It could be argued that the school plays served to express it. In the field of education, a kind of intellectual battle arena was being created in the setting of school theatre during the Counter-Reformation, where prestige in a noble style was decided upon. The performances of both the Protestant and the Catholic camps, to express their own religious and cultural wealth, are worthy of admiration. ...

This study concerns the Franciscan convent in Dačice in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. The convent is presented as a community carrying out pastoral duties in the town as well as in its extended neighbourhood. The friars’ presence in their "circulus" outside of times when alms were collected remains nearly unconsidered. It is well documented, however, in the convent’s account books. The books suggest that the friars used to deal with the convent’s poor economic conditions by serving as chaplains in parishes and castles. These activities ensured a certain income for the convent, revived the original Medieval tradition at...

A large number of countries in Western civilization are experiencing a kind of vocational crisis. This may impact superiors to be more tolerant when accepting candidates into seminaries and religious communities. From the psychological point of view, however, the new generation of candidates is extremely diverse, and a profound personality assessment is required. This paper focuses on how the Catholic Church is open to psychological sciences and practices in the process of accepting candidates into the formation for priesthood. It also proposes an integral model of evaluation of the suitability of candidates before entering the formation communities....

After the Communists took power in 1948, the school system and education in Czechoslovakia were indoctrinated by the ideology of Marxism-Leninism. A unified state system of education was created (Education Act No. 95/1948 and Higher Education Act No. 58/1950) with the aim of educating each young person as a "builder of Communism". The Church became the biggest internal enemy of the state, so-called church acts were passed, orders were abolished, and many bishops, monks, nuns and priests were sentenced to imprisonment. The government attempted to track and control representatives of the official Church. Therefore, in the period of political release...

This article deals with the issue of Christianity in Slovak party politics. The authors classify the Slovak political parties that use topics related to Christianity, religion or the Catholic Church in their communication strategies or in programme documents. They conclude that the issue of Christianity is often discussed not only by Christian Democrats, but also by other types of political parties. Although issues associated with Christianity and the values of the Catholic Church arise both in the party family of the Conservative parties, right-wing extremists also use this issue in their communication strategies.

The volumes of the internal periodical of the Czech Free Masons 1933‒1938 make many references to T. G. Masaryk who was becoming an increasingly symbolic figure, shielding democratic Czechoslovakia at the time of enforced totalitarianism in neighbouring countries, especially in Germany. Czech Free Masons took Masaryk’s criticism about their organisation, expressed in his publication in 1905, extremely badly. It provoked heated discussions in their Lodges. It was especially Grand Master K. Weigner who often highlighted the religious dimension of Masaryk’s legacy. In general, there was a visible bond between Free Masonry and democracy...
