The study aims to clarify how widespread and to what depth Scheeben’s dogmatic‑theologian legacy affected Czech Catholic theologians from 1948 up until the present. The research reveals that awareness of the person and the work of the German professor has declined. We make reference to a decade of authors who referred to Scheeben’s books. A novum represents four translations of parts of his work into Czech and Slovak. The most frequent themes were the Holy Spirit and grace, Sacramentology, while some authors touch on Trinitology, especially connected to spirituality.

The fourth part of the “Suggestions for Refining Theological Terminology in Slovak” project deals with the incorrect wording and translation of the terms ‘ľudskosť’ (humanity – virtue) and ‘ľudstvo’ (human race) in Slovak. It presents several examples from theological literature in which both incorrect terms are given. It points out their correct wording on the basis of official texts of the Catholic Church in Christology. It also looks for the causes of this phenomenon. One of them is the basic study of Christology abroad and the publication of theological articles or the translation of documents of the Catholic...

The present study focuses on the yet little mapped phenomenological concept of human individuality in the early work of Edith Stein (also known as Saint Teresa Benedicta of the Cross). The starting point for this research is the definition of a general concept of the human person. Stein finds in its structure an essential, so-called personal layer for individuality. In connection with this layer, she speaks of the individual core or personal structure that make a given person unique. This core is associated with, for example, character traits, responsiveness to values, but it is not identical with them. This opens up a field of further possible implications....

Stained glass windows are of great importance in the artistic work of Ludvík Kolek. In this article, we want to present hitherto unpublished designs for stained glass windows for the church in Senetářov. These designs have their own symbolism and form a set with a clearly defined iconographic program. From the proposals of the Divine Trinity, it moves to the seven sacraments, and the whole composition ends with the theme of parousia. The iconology of the windows refers to theology and above all to the liturgical celebration, when Christ – light transforms created matter.

The article discusses the development of the rite of priestly obedience during priestly ordination. In the first part, I focused on the influence of the Roman stipulatio and the Medieval immixtio manuum on the development of this ceremony. In the second part, I described the ceremony of Promissio electi in current and earlier Pontificals and evaluated its theological significance. I proposed a modification of this ceremony that would contribute to greater cooperation in the Church.

The paper examines the perspective of Slovakian mainstream dailies on religion through an analysis of their cartoons. Using a sample of 168 cartoons from three newspapers (SME, Denník N, Pravda), collected in the years 2015‒2022, the author applies a quantitative‑qualitative analysis based on attribution theory. She asks what characteristics and motivations caricaturists attribute to their objects. She relies on one of the principles of humour, which through typification represents the beliefs and prejudices of the wider community. She uses categories of attributes that emerged from her previous research on media attribution processes...

The sacral space, so important in the life of Medieval people, is of decisive importance in the study of inscription culture. The vast majority of epigraphic monuments come from this environment. We find them on sepulchral monuments, wall paintings, liturgical utensils, church bells and altars. Graffiti inscriptions, which are characterized by the spontaneity of their creation, represent a specific type in sacral inscription culture. The opposite is characteristic of all other epigraphs, i.e. the inscriptions are created as representative artefacts that have a clearly formulated ideological intention. This means that the emphasis was put not only on...

The article deals with the description and comparison of the Nazi and Communist persecution of the nuns of the Czech Congregation of Dominican Sisters. The issue is presented both in the form of forced labour affecting the whole community and in the investigation, trial and imprisonment of individual nuns of the Congregation during the Nazi occupation and the Communist regime between 1938 and 1989. Particular attention is paid to the motivations behind the acts sanctioned and their eventual publication.

The Czech Congregation of Dominican Sisters was founded in Řepčín near Olomouc in 1889. The mission of the congregation was primarily to educate and bring up young girls in the spirit of St. Dominic. As the congregation was increasingly popular with the Czech population, the nuns had to rebuild and enlarge their monastery several times. The last reconstruction planned for autumn 1930 involved a new three‑storey building that was supposed to be situated next to the monastery. The Olomouc builder Jan Valihrach undertook the construction, however, shortly before its completion the building suddenly collapsed. The builder Valihrach, along with the...
