J. Derrida contributed to analysis of metaphors within a philosophical text in three treatises: 1. Du suplément à la source: la théorie de l'écriture (in De la grammatologie). There Derrida approaches metaphor as a part of our natural language and finds it behaves as if were a univocal term. 2. La mythologie blanche (Engl. White Mythology), the most elaborated treatise on metaphor at all. There he proves earlier theories on metaphors starting with Aristotle and reaching Bachelard. Derrida is looking to rediscover the proper meaning of words that they had before they had been transferred to tropes. 3. Le retrait de la metaphore is a polemic with M. Heidegger's concept of Being and its withdrawing movement. Derrida comes to conclusion that metaphor within a philosophical text remains its necessary part until our language develops such linguistic tools that would lack any pictorial expressions.
