What Can Be Said of the Author of the Gospel of Mark?

The article deals with the question of the author of the Gospel of Mark. First, it submits the data of the tradition on the origin of Mark's Gospel and evaluates them critically. Then the content of the Gospel of Mark itself is questioned. The critical confrontation of the data of Mark's Gospel with the tradition leads to the conclusion that the Gospel of Mark does not fully exclude the tradition on John Mark as the author of this Gospel. But we cannot prove it. The Judaeo-Christian origin of the author of Mark's Gospel and his name "Mark" are more probable. Even an approximate determination of the author of the Gospel of Mark is important for a better understanding of its message.
