Evaluation of Suicide in the Biblical-Christian Tradition

The paper reflects the classification of suicide in the context of the biblical-Christian tradition. It shows that the ultimate condemnation of suicide does not occur in the Bible. It presents the condemnation/ denunciation of suicide by Augustine and Thomas Aquinas. Finally it deals with ecclesiastic-Christian praxis towards suicide, where taboo and pre-Christian elements are quoted. But recently there has been an evident tendency to a more differentiated and humane attitude towards the classification of suicide or more precisely those who commit it and their environment.

The connection of the Dominical day (Sunday) with the celebration of the Eucharist can be demonstrated from the very beginnings of Christianity. This study contains a short exposition and commentary on five texts: "breaking of bread" in Troas according to Acts 20.7; texts on the Eucharist in the Didache; the report of Pliny the Younger about Christians in Bythinia in his letter to Trajan; the description of the Sunday synaxis in Justin's Apology (67.3-5); the report about martyrs from the town of Abitene in AD 304.

Rebellious Vinedressers Wicked Tenants in the Gospel of Thomas: A Comparison with Synoptic Parallels

The present study is concerned with the parable about rebellious vinedressers in the Coptic Gospel of Thomas (logion 65) which has parallels in all three synoptic gospels. We tried to compare them and to interpret their mutual relationship which can be formulated as follows: author (or redactor) of the Gospel of Thomas shows a knowledge of versions of this parable in the Gospel of Matthew and of Luke. He utilized their terminology, retained the elementary narrative structure of the story, which he adapted in accordance with his theological purpose and view as it is presented in the Gospel of Thomas as whole.

The article analyzes the way in which the decrees of the Council of Trent were confirmed by Pope Pius IV. and the role of a newly established Congregation of Council in interpreting of these decrees. It presents the revision of the Corpus iuris canonici by Correctores Romani and comments on the impact of these factors on canon law both in theory and in practice as well as in the ecclesiological context after the Council of Trent.

The article deals with the history of the catechesis of the Roman Catholic Church in Moravia in the historical context of the Church and of the political, social and cultural transformations of the Czech nation in the period of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. The catechesis was aimed at children and young people and realized in the school environment. In the school system the catechesis delivered in the traditional style, coming from the Enlightenment, persisted, according to which religion was looked upon and taught as an aggregate of doctrine which can be learned by heart (such as multiplication tables) and a set of duties towards God and the Church....

This essay deals with the characteristics, aims and methods of contemporary teaching of religion and catechesis in the Czech Republic in the context of religious, moral-value and political orientation of the teachers of religion and the catechists. An important part of the present essay is the evaluation of the exploratory research done in the framework of the TRES European Socrates project. From the evaluation of this research above all emerges a clear contradiction.
