The article examines the term parable as it is used in the New Testament (in Greek parabolē) and in the interpretation of the Gospels. At first, the Czech usage is presented, followed by the terminology of the Bible. Then the understanding of this word as a literary term is explored, beginning with classical authors. Much attention is paid to what biblical scholarship has said about the parables of Jesus in the last more than hundred years since the influential work of A. Jülicher. We can see that the approaches to the parables have been very diverse so that the only consensus among modern scholars seems to be the fact that Jesus sometimes spoke...

A local Church cannot be truly whole if it is not aware of its wealth. The article attempts to define a perspective on the local Churches in Central and Eastern Europe as a perichoresis of traditions and mentalities: this means a wealth of personal knowledge, sensitivity or openness towards the Christian East as well as for the developments in Western Europe. This Central European experience manifests itself in the confrontation with the issues of the global strategy of Church direction in the coming years. Central Europe does not have the ambition to become the leading intellectual light of Catholicism, but a sensitive interpreter and seismograph...

The Hymn Deus creator omnium is one of the four so called daily hymns that the tradition attributes undisputedly to Ambrose. These daily hymns are: the morning hymns Aeterne rerum conditor, Splendor paternae gloriae, the hymn for the Tierce (9 a.m.) Iam surgit hora tertia, and the above mentioned hymn Deus creator omnium. Deus creator omnium is an evening hymn. The liturgical assembly addresses it to God, giving thanks for the passed day, and presenting intercessions for the coming night. The hymn focuses on the remembrance of the passed day, with its sunlight 1,2-3, and labours, including the associated pains, physical as well as mental 2,1-2; further...

The article comments on the ten principles that were approved by the Synod of Bishops in 1967 in order to guide the work of various commissions during the process of revising the code of canon law. The principles embodied some crucial ideas of the Second Vatican Council and it is true to say that they made a bridge to connect the Council (1963-1965) and the new Code of Canon Law (1983). Among the key elements of the ten Principles are the human and Christian dignity of the faithful, the participation of all the faithful in the mission of the Church, and the duties and the rights in the church. The article is completed by a summary text of the Principles.

This article describes the canonic situation of catechumens, especially their possibility to celebrate the marriage in the Catholic Church. After the recapitulation of Church-documents concerning catechumens since the Second Vatican Council the author describes the regulation of their possibilities to celebrate the Church-marriage specially - both in the area of liturgical law, and in the canon law. The liturgical law gives large possibilities for such celebrations in the Catholic Church, while it seems that the text of C.I.C. excludes it. It is necessary to harmonize these two regulations. Using the principles of the canon law, especially the principle...

Census from the year 2001 shows that up to 73 % of the population list Catholic as their religious denomination. The same statistics also shows that 60 % of these are either "casual" practitioners, people with naïve beliefs, those with superstitious religious beliefs, or syncretists (new age thinkers), and only up to 38 % can be considered as the "core faithful". The sociologists explain the growth of overall trust in the church here with a social conformity to religious traditions. It seems that there is a meeting of our religious and national heritage, history, and traditions with the need to preserve and propagate the living faith and true...

The article informs about the principles of the curriculum didactical theory. This theory is based upon a gradual and elaborate formulation of aims. These aims come out of the needs of a developing human being, then they come out of the needs of the developing society and finally out of the logic of the subject area which appears in the background of the particular subject. It shows the consequences, which this theory has on the conception of the curriculum of religious education with regards to needs of the society (the development of attitudes and personal responsibility) and with respect to the natural relation of the developing personal relationship...

The article deals with not very often studied period of development of church music, the movement of reformation, called cecilianism. Issues that initiated the beginning of this movement in 19th century, introduced new knowledge about the essence of liturgy, the continuity between liturgy and church music, out of which were drawn various program proclamations, affections and impulses that can be found in the present liturgy of 21st century after The Second Vatican Council. In particular, such diverse drives were first evident in the personal shapes of the representatives of cecilianism, therefore this article deals mainly with the representatives and...
